Paste any YouTube link and download its thumbnail in HD, SD or small size. Works with Shorts too.
Video ID: dQw4w9WgXcQ
This YouTube thumbnail downloader grabs the cover image of any public YouTube video. Paste the video URL — a normal watch link, a youtu.be short link, a Shorts link, an embed URL, or just the 11-character video ID — and every available thumbnail size appears instantly, ready to view or download.
YouTube stores each video's thumbnail at several fixed sizes. The largest, maxresdefault, is 1280 × 720 and is what you want for a blog header, a presentation slide or a thumbnail study. Older or low-resolution uploads may not have a maxres version, in which case use sddefault (640 × 480) or hqdefault (480 × 360), which exist for every video.
Creators mostly use a thumbnail downloader for research: pulling the thumbnails of the top-ranking videos on a keyword, comparing colour, face placement and text treatment, and working out why one gets clicked and another doesn't. Remember that thumbnails are the copyright of the uploader — study them freely, but get permission before republishing someone else's image as your own. This tool makes no API calls and stores nothing.
