Markup = profit ÷ cost. Margin = profit ÷ selling price.

A markup calculator turns your cost price into a selling price. Enter what an item cost you and the markup you want to apply, and this tool instantly returns the price to charge, the gross profit per unit, and the resulting profit margin. Switch modes to work backwards: give it a cost and a selling price and it derives the markup and margin.

Markup and margin are not the same number, and confusing them is the single most common pricing mistake in small business. Markup is profit expressed as a percentage of cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. A 50% markup on a $100 item gives a $150 price and a 33.3% margin. To hit a 50% margin you need a 100% markup.

Use it for retail pricing, wholesale quotes, freelance project pricing, restaurant menu costing or e-commerce listings. Everything runs client-side in your browser, so your cost data never leaves your device.
